Last week we reported on the DDoS attack that affected millions of users. Dyn has since reported that the hackers were less powerful than originally estimated. The end result of the attack will lead to conversations and adjustments in the internet community that will hopefully help to mitigate these kinds of attacks in the future.

A Distributed Denial of Service attack on DNS hosting company Dyn suspended service for several hours today. The attack affected major sites such as Twitter, Amazon, NetFlix and Zoho and many others. Sources are reporting 3 separate waves of attacks, the most recent one beginning around 4:30PM EDT. Dyn says it's a very smart attack and with each new wave they are working to mitigate the effects.

As we shared last week, members of our management team attended the OARC workshop this past weekend in Dallas and they came to an important decision. We are very proud and excited to announce that DeepDive Networking is now officially a voting member of the DNS Operations, Analysis, and Research Center. This allows us to participate along with other members in the meetings, workshops and discussions that contribute to shaping the world of DNS technology and infrastructure.

DNS Operations, Analysis, and Research Center (DNS-OARC) is a non-profit, membership organization that seeks to improve the security, stability, and understanding of the Internet's DNS infrastructure. Their semi-annual workshops bring together key operators, implementors, and researchers to share information and coordinate responses to attacks and other security issues. DNS is at the core of what we do here at DeepDive and our super star management team; Roby Nagy, Josh Kuo and Mike Lanski, will be attending the event in Dallas this weekend. Interop is a twice annual, information technology event unlike any other.
